Diabetes in pregnancy | Diet tips for high sugar in pregnancy | Dietitian Sonali Wagle
During pregnancy, your placenta makes hormones that cause glucose to build up in your blood. Usually, your pancreas can send out enough insulin to handle it. But if your body can't make enough insulin or stops using insulin as it should, your blood sugar levels rise, and you get gestational diabetes.
Here are the diet tips for diabetes in pregnancy. Such a diet will allow the optimum growth of the baby but at the same time will help keep blood sugar under control.
Tips –
1. Have small & Frequent meals
It will lead to a healthy weight gain & control your blood sugar levels
2 Prefer fiber & protein rich food in your meals & as a mid morning & mid evening snacks
( Salad / fruits / Buttermilk / Nuts )
3. Light snacks – Khakara , Sprouts salad , Rajgira / Jowar / Wheat puffs
4. Dry fruits – avoid dates , dry figs ( prefer this in hypoglycemia / low blood sugar which is less than 100mg/ dl )
5. Take good combination of complex carbohydrate , protiens & fibers in your meals
Complex carbohydrate- Whole grains , Cereals , Daliya , Brown rice
Proteins – Non veg – egg , chicken , fish
Veg – Milk , Milk products , Pulses , Sprouts , Nuts
Fibers – Green salad , sprouts , fruits , green leafy vegetables

What problem with jowar its very good source to reduce sugar level
1. You can have 1 jowar bhakari but don’t have two carbohydrates together like rice and jowar bhakari. Too much carbohydrate at one time can increase sugar levels.
2. Jowar do not reduce sugar.

Watermelon does not contain sugar
All fruits contain fructose sugar in it. Watermelon has high amount of sugar in it i.e it is high G.I fruit.

Ma’am why jowar is in red zone? Jowar bhakri are easy to digest n have low GI
Jowar bhakri is easy to digest, but it’s glycemic index is not low…..is has similar amount of carbohydrates as wheat or rice.
